Creating Your First Board and Forum

GravityOps Forum uses a hierarchical structure to organize your community discussions. This guide explains how to set up your boards and forums.

1. Understanding the Hierarchy #

  • Boards: These are top-level containers used to categorize different sections of your forum (e.g., “Customer Support,” “General Discussions”).
  • Forums: These are specific discussion areas that live inside a Board (e.g., “Feature Requests” inside “Customer Support”). Topics are created within these forums.

2. Creating a Board #

To create a new Board:

  1. Navigate to Forms > GravityOps > Forum in your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click on the Forums tab.
  3. Click the Add Board button.
  4. Fill in the following fields:
    • Name: The display name of the board.
    • Slug: The URL-friendly version of the name (e.g., general-support).
    • Description: An optional brief overview of what this board contains.
  5. Click Save Board.

3. Creating a Forum #

Once you have created at least one Board, you can add Forums to it:

  1. In the Forums tab, find the Board you just created.
  2. Click Manage Forums in the actions column for that board.
  3. Click the Add Forum button.
  4. Fill in the following fields:
    • Name: The name of the forum.
    • Slug: The URL-friendly version of the name.
    • Description: A description that helps users understand what to post here.
    • Access Set: Select an access set to control who can view, post, and moderate this forum.
  5. Click Save Forum.

4. Managing and Editing #

  • Editing: You can edit the name, slug, or description of any Board or Forum by clicking the Edit link in its respective management view.
  • Deleting: Clicking Delete will remove the entity. Note: Deleting a Board will also delete all Forums within it.
  • Viewing: Click the View link to see how the Board or Forum looks on the front-end of your site.
