# GravityOps Live Field Validation

GravityOps Live Field Validation adds real-time, per-field AJAX validation to Gravity Forms. Fields are validated on blur (when a user leaves a field) without requiring a full form submission, giving users immediate feedback.

### Configuration

Settings are available per-form under **Forms → Settings → Live Validation**. You can enable or disable live validation for the entire form and configure which fields participate.

### How It Works

When a user leaves a configured field, the plugin fires an AJAX request to validate that field's value against your Gravity Forms validation rules. Errors appear inline, matching the same styling as standard Gravity Forms validation messages.

### Pre-filled Fields

Fields pre-populated via server defaults or [Gravity Forms Populate Anything (GPPA)](https://gravitywiz.com/documentation/gravity-forms-populate-anything/) are validated automatically on page load — without requiring user interaction first. This ensures pre-filled values are checked immediately rather than waiting for the user to blur the field.

When GPPA updates a batch of fields programmatically, the plugin listens for the `gppa_updated_batch_fields` event and re-validates any configured fields that were touched.

### Multi-page Forms & Session Persistence

Validation state is stored in `sessionStorage` (keyed as `golv_{formId}`) so it survives full-page navigation between multi-page form steps. On page reload or back/forward navigation, the plugin detects the browser navigation type and restores the previous state rather than re-validating unnecessarily.

### JavaScript Event Hook

After each field is validated, the plugin triggers a jQuery event on `document`:

```
$( document ).on( 'gravityops_lgfv_field_validated', function ( event, formId, fieldId, isValid ) {
    // React to a single field becoming valid or invalid.
} );
```

| Parameter | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `formId` | number | The Gravity Forms form ID. |
| `fieldId` | number | The field ID that was just validated. |
| `isValid` | boolean | Whether the field passed validation. |

## In the GravityOps dashboard

Open **GravityOps → Live Field Validation** (or a form's **Settings → Live Validation** tab). The page has these tabs:

- **Overview** — what the plugin does at a glance.
- **Forms** — a console listing every form with fields eligible for live validation. See whether live validation is on and how many fields are covered, toggle it on or off per form, and jump to a form's field selection.
- **Tester** — pick a form and field, enter a value, and run its server-side validation without filling out the form. Handy for checking custom `gform_field_validation` rules.
- **Docs** — this documentation, right in your dashboard.
- **Help** — support links.

Which fields validate is still chosen on each form's **Settings → Live Validation** tab.
